OCEAN’S TWELVE by Steven Soderbergh
In this sequel to Ocean’s Eleven, Danny Ocean (George Clooney) and his gang (including Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Eddie Izzard, Vincent Cassell, Julia Roberts and others) are tracked down by Terry Benedict (Andy Garcia), the guy who they robbed in 11, and he gives them two options: pay back including interest charges, or die.
As most of the money is already spent, they plan another heist – this time in Europe (Amsterdam and Rome). Catherine Zeta Jones is Europol detective Isabel and Rusty’s (Brad Pitt) girlfriend, and Vincent Cassel is rival thief Francois Toulour.
Don’t expect a heist movie, because it is none. There doesn’t really happen very much, it’s not a “character movie”, not an action movie, and – repeat – not a heist movie. Neither it’s a comedy.
What it is is a movie about hip people doing supposedly hip things. I don’t really understand “hip”, i actually don’t like hip, so if you do enjoy it, watch this movie and be happy, if you don’t, don’t even come close or you’re gonna be very disappointed!
The script was originally planned for a John Woo-action movie – just imagine what it could have been like starring Chow Yun Fat, Leslie Cheung and Andy Lau and directed by John Woo in pre-Hollywood form!
