I NOW PRONOUNCE YOU CHUCK AND LARRY by Dennis Dugan
Chuck (Adam Sandler) and Larry (Kevin James) are firefighters and best friends. Chuck is a macho-man who dates identical twins and half a dozen hooters girls, and “Dr. Honey” (Chandra West), the doctor he meets in hospital after an accident at work during which Larry saved his life. Larry is still devastated by his wife’s death after three years, and in his grief he missed the deadline to change the beneficiary of his pension from his wife to his kids. To change the beneficiary, Larry has to marry again. And because Chuck promised to do anything for Larry after he saved his life, and Chuck is the only one he trusts, Larry persuades Chuck into agreeing to a fake gay marriage.
But providing false information is legally fraud, and if they are caught, both of them and anybody who knew about the fraud and did not report it will go to jail, which does not stop Chuck from chasing their hot lawyer Alex (Jessica Biel), while Clinton Fitzer (Steve Buscemi), a special investigator from the beneficiary office, is already checking their “marriage”.
If you are easily offended by juvenile gay jokes, don’t even think about watching this movie – it’s a typical Adam Sandler-vehicle showcasing all the rude language and gay jokes you expect. Which is not a bad thing necessarily, but Chuck and Larry delivers hardly a handful of real bellylaughts, and it gets a bit too preachy in the end.
Amusing and with a message, but will hardly be remembered as a classic.
