ROBIN HOOD by Ridley Scott

robin hood - embitterment level - disappointment level

The latest screen adaptation of the legendary archer introduces Robin Hood as Robin Longstride, a common archer in the Third Crusade, who impersonates nobleman Robert Loxley in order to get a safe passage on a ship from France to England. Also contrary to the legend, King Richard Lionheart is being killed in battle instead of being imprisoned.
England is torn apart by newly appointed King John’s desire to raise taxes, the Baron’s demand for a charter of rights, and threatened by an imminent French invasion.

Ridley Scott, Russel Crowe and swords? That must be Gladiator 2 then, right?
Wrong. Everybody who thinks so will be bitterly disappointed by this Robin Hood (without Merry Men). Despite the big names attached to the movie – Russel Crowe, Ridley Scott, Cate Blanchett, Max von Sydow, William Hurt … it is an inglorious, muddy, tiresome and bloodless affair. If you want to see a good Robin Hood movie, better re-visit Robin Hood – Prince of Thieves with Kevin Costner. Really.
